Christmas decorating and memories

It used to be that we would not decorate for Christmas until after my birthday (December 10th). I am not sure if that was my rule growing up, or if my parents just wanted my birthday to feel special. Now that I am older, I am OK passing right over my birthday and moving on to the Christmas decorating. This year I wasn't able to pass right over my birthday (more on that later), but I did begin the Christmas decorating early. I love unwrapping each ornament and remembering the story behind the ornament. I love the way the lights reflect all over the house. I love the music. I love the Christmas soap that reminds me of my friend Kris. I love the Christmas candle that smells like pine (thanks Alissa). I love the memories that just one ornament brings back. I love that when the Christmas tree goes up that means I get to see my aunties and my cousin soon. Why not start the fun early?! Well, no earlier than Thanksgiving :) Unless of course you are using some of these decorating ideas- in which case you might just keep them up year round!

A few of my favorite grown-up Christmas ornaments. My childhood ornaments still hold a spot on our family tree (except for this one, which I've stolen!)

If this doesn't make you smile...

My talented friend Laura made this!!

My sweet friend Krissy gave this to me when I bought my first house. It has the 3 roomies names, our address and a 2006 charm.

When do you start decorating for Christmas?
